Term 1 - Holidays.

During my term one holidays, I spent my time indulging in my sleep, by sleeping in everyday till around 10 o’clock, and cleaning the house when I had nothing else to do. Also for a few days, I spent time with Bonnie; we went out for lunch to the Hot Bread shop and went to the movie theatre Cinema 5 in Whakatane with my older brother to watch
Dragonball.
I also spent a few nights with my nephews and their mother, we travelled to the Waiotahi beach and the park to keep us occupied.
Towards the end of the holidays the movie Twilight was released in the video store. Aleesha Willetts and I hired it out and watched it over and over again The next day we were bored so, Aleesha and I drove out to the Waiotahi Drifts so Aleesha could teach me how to better my driving skills in a manual car. On Sunday My mother, her partner and I made our way to Tauranga, to shop at the shopping centre Bayfair, it was terrible weather and we arrived there late, so we didn’t have much time to shop. We bought a few clothes and the movie Twilight.

Women and Alcohol - Part Two

This time we were asked to answer 1 of 3 questions and write half a page by answering the question.

Do you think lowering the drinking age to 18 was a good idea? Give reasons.

I think that lowering the legal drinking age in New Zealand to 18 was a bad idea, because now youths have easier ways or access to alcohol, by getting their older brothers and sisters to buy the substance.

I personally think that the legal drinking age needs to be risen to a more mature age, 18 year olds are fresh out of school and are still children themselves, and it’s leading to or communities being destroyed by violent and aggressive youths.

Also it is leading teenage girls that consume large amounts of alcohol to becoming teenage mothers, because they are so intoxicated they are more venerable to be taken advantage of, not necessary by someone they know, but could be by a complete stranger, who could then rape them or murder them.
A good idea would be to rise the drinking age to 20 or 21, to make sure that older and mature people have the choice of buying alcohol for youths, or abiding by the law and making them wait till they are the legal age to start drinking

Setting Up Your Blog.

Over these few weeks my Year 11 Information Management class have been making blogs, we have uploaded many things onto our blogs such as:
  • Our Profile called, About Me
  • Font Personalities
  • The keyboards we designed
  • The Women and Alcohol Story we typed
  • And how fast we can type.

and more, I enjoyed making a blog it's not all difficult but it can be sometimes. It's fun to choose the colours and ways to present our blogs, because we can make it how we like it, and make it all about us.

Women and Alcohol

She has a glass or two of wine and feels it go straight to her head. He has the same amount to drink and feels fine.

Researchers confirm something many women have always suspected—it takes less alcohol for a woman to feel tipsy than it does for a man, and it’s not all to do with body size. Even if a woman is the same weight as a man and drinks the same amount of alcohol, she will end up with a blood alcohol level a third higher then his. It will also take a third longer for her body to eliminate the alcohol from her blood.

Why alcohol affects more women than men and is potentially more harmful is one of a number of topics covered in a booklet produced by the Alcohol Advisory Council.

Alcohol affects women more than men because women have a higher proportion of body fat and less water in their bodies than men. This means that once it is in the bloodstream of a woman, the alcohol is not as diluted and has a stronger effect. So even if a woman is the same size as a man, she will generally be affected more quickly and feel the effects for much longer than the man will.

Both males and females have an enzyme in their stomach designed to process alcohol into a safer substance, yet for reasons that are not yet clear to scientists, this enzyme is 70-80 percent more effective in men then women. If the liver of a healthy young woman is compared with that of a healthy young man, it will generally take her liver longer to process one drink than his, and a person starts to feel drunk when they drink alcohol faster than their liver can process it.

New Zealand research has found more women are drinking and the amount of alcohol consumed by women is increasing. Young women are also drinking more, and what is particularly concerning is that the significant proportion of young women are adopting a pattern of drinking similar to their male counterparts—that is, consuming large amounts of alcohol in one go.

Other topics included in the booklet are alcohol and women’s health, alcohol and sex, alcohol and pregnancy and alcohol and breastfeeding. There is also a guide to how much is too much and a section on getting help and advice.

Font Personalities

My Year 11 Information Management class has been producing Font personalities over the past few weeks.
For example If we were given the word distance, you could make the word fade into the distance. To the left are a few I have drawn. I enjoyed doing these font personalities, I didn't find this task challenging, but it was cool to use my imagination and make them colourful.
